Societal and systemic revolution in a year of courage, consequence, and change

The Big Picture

If 2026 were a song, it would be “We Didn’t Start the Fire,” by Billy Joel or the most recent cover by Fall Out Boy. Both versions thump away to a fast beat as the singers rattle off a long list of interesting people and consequential happenings. The song leaves us feeling validated. We’re not crazy; the world is, and has been, “on fire” for centuries. We should expect 2026 to deliver more than enough activity to refresh this song's lyrics once again.

The combination of outer planetary shifts (in both sign and direction) and potent eclipse energies sets the stage for more than one kind of revolution.

In some cases, planets enter signs they haven't occupied for centuries, activating cycles far beyond living memory. In other instances, certain planets align at the Aries Point, marking rare moments of civilizational inflection. The enormity of these transits cannot be understated. Keep that in mind as you read on and process what I believe to be the start of a new fire.

It is fitting that the fire element serves as the central theme of 2026. The flame is sparked when Neptune reenters Aries in January. Saturn joins in February, creating added restrictions supported by Pluto’s transit in Aquarius. The flames grow larger as Uranus reenters Gemini and the air element feeds the fire. Expect the heat from these energies to culminate publicly in August during the Total Solar Eclipse in Leo, while Pluto’s transit moves beyond the bounds of normal solar declination (out of bounds, an astrological construct based on planetary declination rather than longitude).

The influence of these cosmic changes will bring about new technologies, structures, ideals, and long-lasting impacts, seen most visibly as:

  • Truth, ego, power, and boundaries press against law and precedent (or the lack thereof).

  • The power of governments (and large corporations) versus the power of the people is laid bare, in plain view.

  • Rapid technological adoption clashes with demands for stricter governance.

  • Artificial Intelligence (AI) permeates our lives so deeply that it becomes difficult to distinguish what is true from what is fabricated, creating confusion that ignites false fears and impulsive, cross-border hostility.

  • Achieving Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) dissolves the long-held philosophical belief, “I think, therefore I am,” triggering an identity crisis for humanity. What is our contribution to the world if the bots are now smarter than humans? I believe the astrology substantiates that this threshold may be crossed during this period.

  • The ground the U.S. stands on (literally and symbolically) gets redefined. The homeland's security, infrastructure, identity, and leadership undergo a hard reboot, unlike anything since its separation from the English motherland.

January – February: The Match Is Struck

January 26–27: Neptune enters Aries - From foggy feelings to flaming action

For the first time since the 1860s, Neptune shifts from fog (Pisces) to flame (Aries). Ideals now drive action. Aries brings pioneering speed, courage, and optimism—along with a quick temper, a strong sense of independence, and a tendency to start more than it finishes. Neptune still brings fear, confusion, and leaks; in Aries, those qualities are more likely to move than drift. Known as “the great dissolver,” Neptune in Aries leans toward idealistic action without all the facts.

February 13–14: Saturn enters Aries - The boxer in a straitjacket

Rules collide with impulse as Saturn in Aries links speed to accountability. This placement insists that we finish what we start, show the work behind the answer, and accept the consequences. More precise boundaries, physical and intellectual, are likely to shape public life. Aries is the pioneering entrepreneur, and Saturn is the government regulator. Those who have been working quickly and iteratively may face administrative demands that make them feel like a boxer in a straitjacket.

February 17: Annular Solar Eclipse at approximately 28°53′ Aquarius - Access to systems and science in a new era

This is a turning point for networks, science, and shared spaces and resources. Aquarius is original, inventive, and humanitarian—as well as stubborn, aloof, and rebellious. Debates about access, standards, and community rules are likely to sharpen as evidence of the new modern era takes hold. Information is beginning to feel like another form of currency, and with it come issues of equity and ethics.

February 20: Saturn conjunct Neptune at 0° Aries - Impatience, aggression, and blurred lines

This alignment lands at the world axis (0° Aries) and represents the first pass of a multi-phase conjunction unfolding throughout 2026. Institutions, governments, and leaders (Saturn) act quickly and assertively, seeking to turn inspiration and confusion (Neptune) into policy and practice. Squabbles and aggression (Aries) over delusions and deception (Neptune), along with a need for control (Saturn), could exacerbate global conflicts. Aries, the mythical God of War, takes the stage at a most potent degree. Outcomes depend on the integrity and restraint of those involved.

Prior Transits of Neptune in Aries

  • March 17, 1861: Proclamation of the Kingdom of Italy (Turin, Italy). A divided Italian peninsula of multiple kingdoms, states, and territories consolidated under pressure and a new vision. Unified as the Kingdom of Italy (now the country of Italy), it ended regional sovereignties and spurred the rise of national governance. It also changed the balance of power in Europe.

  • April 12–13, 1861: Civil War begins at Fort Sumter (Charleston Harbor, SC). The first shots of the U.S. Civil War marked the beginning of an era in which ideals were fought for on battlefields. This conflict led to changes, including the abolition of slavery, the governance of states by the same moral and legal principles, and a long, bloody struggle over principles and autonomy. The changes emerging from this extreme conflict included the abolition of slavery, the governance of states by the same moral and legal principles, and the redefinition of citizenship.

These conditions set the stage for Saturn and Neptune in Aries, emphasizing courage, consequences, and the need for clear boundaries.

March – July: Signals Turn into Systems

March 3: Total Lunar Eclipse at approximately 12°52′ Virgo - Evidence is more compelling than spin

Virgo inspects and prioritizes evidence. It reviews promises, data quality, and record-keeping. It is likely to focus on practical housekeeping related to health initiatives, work conditions, and public services. Persuasion favors clear facts over speed, volume, and spin. As a result, people are inclined to seek solid ground grounded in proof. Emotions will take a back seat to information revealed during the eclipse.

April 25–26: Uranus enters Gemini - Information overload taxes reality

Everyday communication speeds up and changes gears (again). Gemini is adaptable, clever, and energetic—with an inclination to be restless, indecisive, and sometimes superficial. Uranus brings massive change, freedom-seeking, electricity, aviation, and the unusual and unexpected. Together, they accelerate the flow of information through homes, schools, transportation, and global markets. Faster tools and surprise interruptions are both possible, along with renewed arguments about truth and responsibility. At stake is our ability to distill truth from an overwhelming amount of information, no longer at our fingertips but seemingly wired directly into our consciousness. It may feel as if this influx of information has opened a door to dueling realities and multiple intelligences (perhaps the moment that AGI is achieved).

May 5 (ish) to October 13: Pluto retrograde in Aquarius - The Overhaul of social systems, scientific structures, and power dynamics

Aquarius speaks to people's power and shared systems. Pluto rules major endings and profound transformation. During the retrograde, rules and platform policies (set by large online services and marketplaces) may be revised, and hidden struggles may surface. AI accelerates scientific progress, and humans will face new disruptions in employment, education, and social structures. During this time, the masses are likely to question who actually benefits from progress. Social and policy reformers are becoming more visible amid slow progress for the sake of society at large. An overhaul of social systems, scientific structures, and power dynamics begins.

Early July to mid-December: Neptune retrograde in Aries - Bold, independent, aggressive changes get a reality check

This period favors cutting through fantasy while holding faith that what’s new and bold can work. But faith alone will not withstand the pressure test. Achieving bold change is only the first step. History has shown that independence, autonomy, and sustainability require action. This period will test the resolve of those fighting for a better future. Earlier in the year, people were more tolerant of moving fast and breaking things. Now, society must reckon with the new norm and backtrack before it can move forward with clarity.

Prior Transits of Uranus in Gemini

  • July 4, 1776: Declaration of Independence (Philadelphia, PA). It adopted a rights-based claim of sovereignty. The Declaration articulated independence; independence itself was secured through subsequent military and diplomatic victories. Broadcast messages mobilized people en masse and gave birth to a new nation.

  • November 24, 1859: Darwin’s On the Origin of Species (London, England). This publication delivered a shock of knowledge that ignited debates about education, religion, and law. The ideas sparked conflict and educational reform, setting the stage for the long-term bifurcation of science and religion.

  • July 27, 1866: Transatlantic telegraph cable. This system reduced cross-continental transmission time from weeks to minutes. Consequently, diplomacy, markets, and news evolved rapidly, reshaping power through faster connections and information sharing.

August: The Crescendo

August 12: Total Solar Eclipse at approximately 20° Leo - Leadership, performance, loyalty, and pride on display

Leo offers confidence, ambition, and commitment, but it can also slide into pretension, domination, and drama. Authentic courage is likely to be rewarded, and empty spectacle is tested. Distinguished, poised, and confident leaders may step into the spotlight, offering warmth and stability during a moment that feels chaotic and uncontrolled.

Mid-August to December 8: Pluto out of bounds - Power plays and overreach from the underworld

When Pluto exceeds the Sun’s declination limits, extremes are more likely. Power plays, deep investigations, and hard truths can break through denial. Regeneration and overreach may coexist, making discernment essential. This is a heavy time, as it becomes clear that social norms, communal resources, and advanced technology will not return to their old forms.

August 27: Partial Lunar Eclipse at 4°51′ Pisces - An emotional reckoning

Pisces emphasizes compassion, endings, and spiritual clarity—and can drift toward confusion and escapism. During Neptune’s retrograde, this eclipse highlights the difference between comfort and truth. The moment favors mourning what progress has taken, forgiving those who didn't know what they were doing, and letting go of outdated ways. This release is critical to pivoting toward practical repair and adaptation.

September – December: Integration and Accountability

By early September, the emotional peak begins to ease, yet the lessons remain. Pluto stays out of bounds until December 8, maintaining pressure on abuses of power and the need for repair. Neptune turns direct in mid-December, offering clarity after months of misunderstanding and reassessment. The year ends more quietly, with an explicit memory of what courage, restraint, and truth look like when they count.

A Note About Q4

Significant planetary activity marks Q4, most notably in October and November, when Venus and Mercury will have overlapping retrograde cycles in the sign of Scorpio. This specific overlay has not happened (to this extent) since 1986. We'll publish a separate deep dive.

What This Means for Rights and Freedoms in 2026

  • Physical freedom: Aries emphasizes movement and action. Borders, policing, unilateral military decisions and actions, and street-level protest are likely to be live issues.

  • Intellectual freedom: Gemini emphasizes speech, learning, and information. Censorship, propaganda, education quality, and the right to know may become everyday concerns. Gemini also deals in multiples (the sign of the twins), supporting the theory that AGI will be achieved in 2026.

  • Collective power: Aquarius emphasizes the crowd, shared spaces, and resources. Platform rules (those of large online services and marketplaces), voting access, union power, and local community networks remain places where people may still effectively press for change.

  • Compassion and care: Pisces calls for mercy without losing truth. Aid, healthcare, addiction, and grief call for real support, not slogans and judgment.

Certain Guardrails for Uncertain Times

Change of any kind is hard. In my corporate role, when difficult changes were emerging, I used to tell my team, “We can lean into the change early, understand it, shape it, and acclimate, or we can sit in denial and have the changes done unto us.” There is no power greater than choosing to be part of change and refusing to become a victim of it.

For 2026, this means accepting that technology, education, social structures, and physical boundaries will change globally (not just in the U.S.) and adopting a few simple strategies.

  • Personal accountability: For our individual education, awareness, fact-checking, decision-making, and participation in the activities and groups that influence/shape the world around us.

  • Compromise over consensus: In recent years, an all-or-nothing mindset has taken hold of numerous social issues. Unity and progress are achieved through productive tension (take some, give some). The best outcome is a fair result when all parties walk away having left something on the table. mediators know

  • Tolerance with testimony: The greatest charity humans can give each other is the willingness to coexist despite differences in opinions, tastes, beliefs, preferences, and origins. But tolerance alone will not be enough. The charitable must share the benefits of grace with their biased, misinformed, and uneducated cohorts.

  • Emotional resilience: While 2025 was difficult, 2026 will only increase the pressure. Personal emotional resilience requires commitment to the habits and actions that sustain it. Whether it’s exercise, meditation, prayer, therapy, travel, community service, or dedicated time with loved ones, we all need to find an anchor.

  • Power in numbers: History has long been shaped by groups more than by individuals. Even the most influential individuals were surrounded by or supported by a larger group (seen or unseen). Today, a few large institutions, corporations, and governments use size (and money) to dictate policies and allocate resources that control the day-to-day livelihood of the masses. It will take courage and effort from many to check the power of the few.
