80% of Young Professionals Turning to Astrology for Career Guidance! So, What Does That Mean for Your Team?

A 2024 survey of 2,000 U.S. workers found that 80% of Gen Z and Millennials believe in astrology, and 63% say it has positively impacted their career decisions.

Read that statement again and consider the following:

  • Gen Z career anxiety is at a documented peak.

  • Corporate summer internships are aggressively courting new talent.

  • Impersonal, system-driven hiring mechanisms frustrate and exhaust active job seekers.

  • Executives pressure managers to drive AI adoption, forcing them to declare savings before the technology is ready to deliver.

  • Nearly everyone in a corporate setting anticipates weekly layoff announcements.

What does this mean for Employee Development, Satisfaction, and Motivation?

I'm a Gen Xer who has known for decades that people seek out astrological insights to inform career moves, job changes, and launch times. Until recently, people did this on the down-low, fearing judgment for accepting such woo-woo topics. As a seasoned executive and coach, I've witnessed many employees (and, in 1 case, an entire team) who were "on the edge" make a comeback.

First, let's establish 3 undeniable, non-astrological truths:

  1. Value- and principle-based leaders have the lowest voluntary turnover rates and the highest employee satisfaction. These results stem from more than just self-imposed rules that let them sleep at night. It is far more complex. These are the leaders who actively seek to understand what their employees value and hold dear. Then they take the extra step of connecting the work, operational structures, and talent strategies directly to those values.

  2. Despite it being great in theory, companies treat Career Development Planning as a scheduled, check-the-box task. Often, the administrative effort in a CDP fails to capture an employee's greatest strengths, desires, and potential. Instead, employees leave with a reading list, a few projects to seek out, and a completed task in the HR system. What's missing is a level of authentic personalization that allows for a two-way, radically candid conversation. Until that conversation happens, leaders have no real idea how to develop their associate, how their expertise can improve the team's bench strength, or what "age and stage" of career the employee is in.

  3. Personalization incentivizes connection and leads to trust—the ultimate emotional currency. We've all had that leader we'd follow over the edge of the cliff. Regardless of their exact role, they made us feel seen, respected, and cared for. That happens when leaders align people with opportunities to shine where they are strong, support them as they develop, and steer them away from work that threatens their happiness and self-esteem. The employee's desire to be "seen" lies beneath their excitement about participating in diagnostic tools. Whether it is DISC, MBTI, Hogan, or Emergenetics, people adore learning about themselves and discussing it with others. These assessments deliver validation by explaining the "why" behind their natural tendencies.

The Astrological Approach

With little more than a birthdate (and consent to look at the birth chart), I can map an entire team and identify who is most or least inclined to succeed in roles or tasks that are:

  • Client-facing vs. behind the scenes

  • Analytical vs. relational

  • Creative vs. linear

  • Fast-moving vs. slow-paced

  • Ground-breaking vs. established

  • Rigid vs. flexible

Using the unique mix of chart placements, signs, elements, and modes of operation, I can look across a team and:

  • Describe individual communication styles and explain how others experience them.

  • Identify exactly what individuals need to develop psychological safety with leaders and peers.

  • Help teams really appreciate their differences and inspire them to adapt to one another to achieve a common goal.

  • Pinpoint who is most prone to burnout and what warning signs will appear.

Real World Examples

Like most executives, I managed a huge remit, traveled extensively, and tussled with chronic over-scheduling. The buck stopped with me for things like budget, headcount, and vendor selection. In my last four roles, I relied on the support of an Executive Assistant and/or a Business Manager. These roles required someone steady, unflappable in the face of chaos, confident in their abilities, resourceful, practical, accountable, and willing to challenge me.

Across different assignments and at different times, I had five people operating as an EA or Business Manager. And all five of them ended up being Taurus, Capricorn, or Virgo sun signs. Earth signs are grounded, humble, confident in their abilities, and refuse to be distracted by chaos or emotion. I am a Scorpio sun sign: deeply emotional, empathic, and fiercely protective of my teams and my space. My Aries Moon helps me move fast and get sh*t done. Unfortunately, it also means I have zero hesitation about speaking the truth or stepping into the political boxing ring - regardless of the political capital it may cost me.

Having earth signs in these roles allowed me to stay focused on the critical few items, lower the temperature when I was about to blow a gasket, and trust that the details of my budget, schedule, and portfolio were completely under control.

Conversely, I also managed several client-facing business consultants. They had the difficult job of analyzing other departments' needs, making recommendations to improve performance, and then coaxing out the resources needed to build the solution. At the heart of this job was the ability to flex their communication style, build trust, and lead with credibility—even when they were not intimately involved with the other department's processes. Over the years, I saw many people step into these roles, but not everyone could pull it off. Who excelled? Those born under the air element: Gemini, Libra, and Aquarius.

Air signs are highly communicative, social by nature, and capable of collecting, connecting, and processing all types of information. These are the precise skills required of someone in a role that demands influence without formal authority.

Young professionals are leveraging astrology as they desperately search for the profound personalization and validation that are becoming extinct in corporate ecosystems.
